N3-4 meeting on ECOSAUT modelling approach, Friday 28 January 2011

Attending: Kees Swaans, Kinde Getnet, Ranjitha Puskur, Catherine Pfeifer, Mulugeta Lemenih, Charlotte MacAlister

Briefly the outcomes of our meeting were:

WE all like the ECOSAUT approach and think it is a good opportunity to build on CPWF work from another basin (Andes) but we are not sure of the suitability/adaptability of the socioeconomic component. We need input from Nancy to investigate this further and perhaps from the model developers in CIAT/CIFOR. WE need to get the model so we can look at the modules/assumptions. Then we should get together to work on its adoption if possible.

Action points:

Ranjitha – will look into the ILRI staff allocations and budget to see how this can be adjusted to include Nancy and possible Carlos from Nairobi, and who else from ILRI to see who can be involved and how to cost this into the MOU

Nancy – to assess the social/LLH component in more detail – Nancy can you come to Addis from Nairobi 24-25 Feb?

Charlotte and Nancy – make contact with the developers and get the model

Teklu and Mulugeta – investigate incorporating the productivity indicators in the model

Kinde – investigate economic aspects

Don & Amare – investigate livestock/productivity and policy aspects (Don & Ranjitha?)
